Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled a major relief package to support families severely impacted by the 2025 floods. The initiative aims to provide quick compensation and rehabilitation for those who lost homes, livestock, and sources of income.

Under the announced plan:

  • Families whose houses were completely destroyed will receive Rs. 1 million each.

  • Families with partially damaged homes will get Rs. 500,000 for reconstruction.

  • Livestock owners will be compensated between Rs. 200,000 and Rs. 500,000, depending on their losses.

The Chief Minister assured that cheques will be distributed within five days to ensure immediate relief for flood-affected families.

Extent of Flood Damage in Punjab

The 2025 floods, triggered by heavy monsoon rains, flash floods, and glacial lake outbursts, caused widespread devastation across Punjab and adjoining regions. According to official reports:

Rescue and Relief Operations

Highlighting the government’s efforts, CM Maryam Nawaz stated that Punjab conducted the largest rescue operation in Pakistan’s history, with the support of administrative departments, rescue teams, and the Pakistan Army.

Key outcomes of the operation include:

  • Safe evacuation of 2.5 million people.

  • Relocation of 600,000 individuals and 450,000 livestock during peak flooding.

  • Distribution of food, medical care, and essential supplies in affected areas.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the government’s swift action prevented further loss of life and pledged long-term rehabilitation for affected communities.
