NADRA to Introduce Facial Recognition for Elderly Citizens New Technology for Senior Citizens

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced the launch of a facial recognition system to support elderly citizens who face challenges with fingerprint verification. This initiative is aimed at ensuring smoother access to essential services for Pakistan’s senior population.

According to NADRA spokesperson Shabbahat Ali, many elderly individuals struggle with biometric scans due to fading fingerprints. The newly introduced face recognition technology will provide a reliable and efficient alternative for identity verification.

Key Announcements from NADRA

During the announcement, several important updates were shared regarding NADRA’s services:

  • Facial recognition for elderly citizens to simplify identity verification.

  • Juvenile Card for children under 18, valid until they reach adulthood.

  • Parent’s CNIC requirement for child registration, applicable even if one parent is absent.

  • Expansion of services in Karachi, with 359 counters already operational and more to be added.

  • Union Council certificate now mandatory for updating records in divorce cases.

Importance of the Initiative

For years, fingerprint verification issues have been a major obstacle for senior citizens in accessing NADRA services, pensions, and banking facilities. By adopting facial recognition technology, NADRA aims to remove this barrier, making services more accessible and secure for the elderly.

Improving Citizen Services Nationwide

This step highlights NADRA’s ongoing efforts to modernize its systems and improve public service delivery. By integrating advanced biometric solutions, the authority seeks to ensure that both senior citizens and younger applicants receive convenient, transparent, and efficient verification services across Pakistan.
